ABOUT:

The classic toi et moi! This one in an 18k bypass setting with beautiful movement and an elegant pronged setting propping up the two eye clean (!) chunky old mine cut diamonds which are around 1/3 carat each / total about 2/3 carat. The two old mine cut diamonds romantically represent two parts of a couple. This is a nice one in that the prongs are suitable for daily / regular wear.

The tradition of giving toi et moi rings to represent the love between two people dates back centuries, but the style was brought to the attention of a wider audience when Napoleon Bonaparte proposed to Joséphine de Beauharnais with one. Other famous rings include the toi et moi given to Jacqueline Onassis by John F Kennedy in 1953, but the popularity of this two-part style of ring was at its peak during the Edwardian and Belle Époque periods.

But it is a timeless design that can be worn as a self gift as well, just for the joy of the design, or to think of ones' parents, two kids, two siblings, etc.

Found in Paris with their hallmark for 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

A snug size 5 3/4.
Each diamond is about 4.4/4.5mm cushion cut, and about .32 carat and .35 carat. I would not remove them for an exact measurement but around 2/3 carat / .67 carat.

The piece weighs 2.8 grams. It stands 6mm off the finger.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Wonderful antique diamonds with a bright color, they are eye clean with only the faintest speck seen under strong magnification. No damage, no nicks or nibbles. The stones tilt outward just a bit and one prong has a bit of a gap between it and the stone at the tip, but the base of the prong is holding the stone. The stones splay just slightly which was done in the making of the ring and due to the oblong hand cut diamonds.

Please also note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
