ABOUT:
An eye catching vintage solitaire with an old cutt diamond in a timeless setting. The .73 carat diamond is a transitional cut, set in a full bezel setting with wide, domed shoulders leading up to the ring face.
Found in Paris, this vintage to later Art Deco era piece is hallmarked with the French stamp for 18k gold. The gold has a pale yellow color. It's lovely, but something to note that it is not as vibrant as some 18k gold. Just a result of the alloys used in the fabrication. I love mixing metals in my ringstack but you can note the variation in gold hues in the group shots with other pieces.
Easy to wear low profile design with a lovely comfort fit. Makes a timeless engagement ring, adds geometry and sparkle to a ring stack. It layers really wonderfully with other pieces. And ready to be worn every day with the diamond set in the sturdy bezel. The bezel is contrasted in a white precious metal (I suspect platinum), to serve as an illusion setting to make the diamond look bigger. It was also customary in earlier times to set diamonds in a white metal as it was thought to increase their brilliance.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 4 1/2
Ring face: 6.8mm north south and 4.8mm tall off the finger.
Weight: 6.8g
The diamond is about 5.5mm and widens out further an unknown amount in the bezel setting so it is difficult to determine measurements but it is at the very least .73 carat, again appearing larger with the bezel. This is an estimate as I would not remove the stone from the setting for exact measurements.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Well you knew it was coming - the diamond report.
There is a slightly eye visible crystal inclusion that is somewhat transparent leaving a small spot off the center of the stone. Less visible is an area of small crystal inclusions on the very outside facets, tucked somewhat under the bezel. In ambient light here on this overcast day, I am having trouble detecting even under magnification it so it is pretty well hidden in the setting.
These popular settings reflect the light differently being nested into a deep gold bezel compared to one suspended in prongs where the pavilion can catch the light, but it has quite a lot of sparkle. And the setting also makes it very interesting! A fun one to layer and stack. Sturdy piece, ready to wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
