ABOUT:

My favorite stone in all the world - the Perpignan garnet! These special jewels are trademarked and made only in that area of Catalonia France. There have only ever been a small handful of makers in all the world that are trained in the multi step process of creating these pieces.

This one I purchased when I visited to Perpignan, the day I went to the jewelry exposition / display. This ring is an antique with the sought after purple color of the older pieces with the inner glow to the "Perpignan cut" almandine garnet. The simple bezel set stone is set on a comfort fit band. There are tool marks to the back inside the ring face not visible while wearing, but it appears to have possibly been a conversion with the bezel set stone added to the comfort fit band. However, this appears to have been done in antiquity as well as the band has appropriate age and patina. Low profile and a cutie to stack.

No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k and tested to confirm. It has a rich warmth to it from age and patina.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6
The bezel setting is 7.6mm in diameter. The shank is 2.5mm
It weighs 1.8 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

A few nibbles and nicks but a nice sheen and polish overall and a beautiful color. The purple with the light reflecting foil giving it a lighter glow within. Under lit magnification we can see some age and cloudiness to the foil with a frosty halo around the inside of the closed back setting. This is not eye visible and is seen only under magnification but it is from age and sometimes moisture to the closed back setting. The color of the stone masks this much more than when we see aged foil on a diamond. See above about tool marks.

These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
