ABOUT:

Beautiful antique 6 carat diamond bracelet in a linear bypass hinged bangle form with safety chain. So much sparkle from the exceptionally fiery antique diamonds! My daisy cluster rings are always among my most popular items in the shop. It's fun to see this piece in bracelet form with the large and eye catching antique diamond clusters!

The top side of the bracelet is set with a row of old mine cuts continuing out to rose cut diamonds all leading up to those larger clusters which are raised. The line of stones are inlaid into a channel, with seven old mine cuts on each side switching to eight rose cuts as it extends outward. Fun to see the mix of antique diamonds for different types of antique sparkle! These bypass "bars" on each side of the bangle then lead up to the two magnificent clusters old mine cuts rising up almost like a toi et moi setting. Amazing glitter factor from the 56 old cut diamonds.

Found in France crafted in 18k gold. The diamond settings are topped in a white precious metal as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal. I do not scratch test that thin top layer holding the stones for fear of loosening diamonds or damaging the setting but I see some patina in the recesses so it may be silver, otherwise platinum or white gold (the French don't often stamp for that top layer specifically as the hallmarks are for the body of the piece which is 18k gold.

This one is amazing to wear. Hallmarked with several stamps for French 18k on the tongue insert of the clasp, along with a goldsmith stamp. It has a slight rosiness from age and patina, so lovely. Snaps open and closed securely and functions perfectly.

MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 17.2 grams. It is about 6 3/4 inches around the inside with a tape measure wrapped within it the best I can do (this is an estimate as I can't get the tape exactly nested. Inside dimensions are 58mm by 50mm if I measure the distance across the opening in each direction, if you want to compare that to some of your other bangles. I have a 5 1/2 inch wrist and it is too large for me. : ( It won't slide off my hand without opening, but it does spin around my wrist so it would be better on a larger wrist or stacked with other pieces. And with the safety chain, it opens to slide over a larger wrist.

The largest center old mine cut diamonds are each about 5.7x5.5mm and somewhere around .75 carat each, the settings do not allow a measurement of the stones' depths. The halo of old mine cuts around each cluster are around 3 to 3.2mm each. The fourteen old mine cuts in the bars of the bangle are 2.7mm give or take and the sixteen rose cuts there are about 2.5mm. Then there are the eight additional rose cuts inlaid into the vertical little strap detail which are small, about 1.5mm each.

Each cluster measures 12x11mm and each cluster is about 9.5mm deep. The north south footprint of the bracelet is about 13mm from cluster to cluster. Some of my buyers use these measurements to draw it out and "try it on" to see scale.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Very few dings or dents as we often see on bangles of this age. The hinge wobbles just slightly but the clasp is perfect and snaps closed securely. There is wear to some of the prongs, particularly to the outside prongs of the diamonds in the clusters. They have additional prongs in each corner but I always recommend gentler wear on my antique pieces that are over 100 years old in all original condition. The largest stones at the center of each cluster are better held. One has one broken prong but the other seven hold it securely.

For antique diamonds cut in much more limited supply, these are quite fiery compared to many, emitting a very lively sparkle. Typical for antique diamonds though they do have some inclusions. One of the largest stones has some carbon specks amidst a crystal inclusion in the center under the table which is not glaring, but is eye visible if you are seeking it out. The other larger stone has a small frosty pocket inclusion and a small indented natural inclusion carrying up to the surface. These are less seen, but slightly eye visible. The other stones are all typically what we see, some eye clean, some frosty spots, some nibbles here or there under magnification. The stones have slightly varying white, warm to gray hues but some of what is seen is also due to the difference in cuts, with rose cuts reflecting the light differently. The rose cuts have some irregular and frosty edges as they were just cut that way since these old diamonds were cut by hand.

Beautiful coloring, shine and patina. Some surface wear and a few scuffs scratches made more noticeable by the mirrored finish, but functions well. So sparkly and beautiful. Please note that due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.

My items do very well without paperwork and I do not remove stones from antique settings for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
