ABOUT:

I love coming across these sentimental jewels with the AEI motif. This is one of the larger ones I have seen which is completely diamond encrusted with about 65 old cut stones.

Some say the AEI stands for Amity, Eternity, Infinity. This popular abbreviation was used throughout the Victorian period to send a message of eternal love. Others suggest the AEI comes from the Greek word "aei", meaning for now and forever. I guess whichever way you prefer, it equals the same sentiment. : )

Incredible texture and all over sparkle of the old mine cut (and smaller rose cut) diamonds. Many of the old mine cuts are elongated / oblong so it's set with fabulous and somewhat more uncommon stones.

It does have a pin back which could be easily removed as it is already equipped with the loop and bale for wear as a pendant. This one actually has a bit of known provenance. Found in the UK, this piece was given by a British actor to another as a gift, although the piece is older than the actor was so he must have purchased or inherited it as already antique at the time of gifting. : )

Fabulous to wear. Sturdy and large scale crafted in 14k gold (tested) and topped in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal. No hallmarks remain.

Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones and the depths vary. The larger stones are all old mine cuts, around 2-3mm each, a few smaller and with the smaller spaces set with rose cuts, about 1.5mm each. Just using a 2.5mm average on the larger stones you're looking at a face up value of over 2.5 carats to this diamond pendant.

It measures 33mm top to bottom not including the bale by 24mm east west. It weighs a very sturdy 9.1 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

One of the rose cuts on the upper left hand side reads a bit gray in some lighting conditions due to being reinforced with a bit of adhesive. It's not glaring because the varying cuts and shapes all reflect the light differently giving the piece a wonderful texture. Typical antique diamonds with plenty of frosty light inclusions under magnification. Nothing glaring, no crazy stark carbon spots. Some varying hues which gives it a lovely antique look. The loop is attached to a hinge at the top but I think it was always that way for movement. Despite the pin back, this one rests pretty well on the decollette but the pin back can always easily be removed as well.

Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights the warmth and any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - PDue to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
