Beautiful and eye catching French antique dormeuse / sleeper dangle earrings in 18k gold.

Each one holds a 4.5mm old rose cut diamond with an open back, in the tall ornate crown like or fleur de lis prongs with an additional rose cuts at the top for added sparkle. Antique pair of earrings that I acquired in France. So eye catching and elegant in the lovely antique gold which has a bit of a rosy hue. The dangles are attached to the ear posts by loops so that they can move to catch the light and sparkle. We often see rose cuts in closed back settings that age over time, nice that these are open backed, nice and spready, bright and clear.

Really beautiful and interesting settings with bright and sparkling diamonds. Would be a beautiful something old for a bride. Please note the measurements! They are always included but I often get feedback about earrings that they are smaller than expected - millimeter measurements are always below! : )

I know these are old because the hallmark on the ear post has worn and is no longer legible. But they are textbook French dormeuse, and tested to confirm. The prongs are topped in white gold or platinum, as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white precious metal. I don't scratch test prongs but I believe they are platinum. Just tough to say for sure without a date stamp.

The posts latch in to the hinged back.

Antique box is not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They measure about 14 mm top to bottom from the top of the ear wire to the base of the earring.
The largest rose cuts are about 4.5mm. I don't remove stones from antique settings for measuring but these largest stones each face up around the size of a .35 carat diamond. The dangle setting holding the rose cut are 6.5mm in diameter by 5.6mm deep. The other rose cut on each earring are smaller, just a tiny chip. The dangle setting holding the rose cut are 6.5mm in diameter by 5.6mm deep.

This pair of earrings weighs 4 grams combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

As with all my pieces this is in estate condition. Both stones have nibbles around the outside edge, one worse than the other, it has small chips with loss but the stone is still held in the prongs. But they function well and are very wearable. They have a really great color and clarity (even though they were cut long before the 4 C's ever existed.). The top rose cuts are typical antique diamonds with some warmth due to the setting. The hinges still lock right into place. Beautiful French antique earrings. But my disclaimer as with all my pre-owned pieces - Please note this is not a new / mint condition item. We are talking about 125 year old hinges so they pretty much always need a gentler hand, although these are nice that they are not inserted from behind the ear which are harder to handle in my opinion.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
