ABOUT:

Nice and chunky French antique ruby wide band gadroon ring. The shank is a domed "gadroon" setting which comes from the French meaning of a "form with wavy edges". So the shoulders swirl and have a sort of angled ribbed design. This has a really wonderful patina. It reads primarily as rose gold, but has a rich buttery glow to the recesses from antique patina to the gold. The ruby is likely synthetic and appears to be a later addition as it is in really good condition and extends out the back slightly.

Beautiful color and glow. French hallmark for 18k gold.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/2. The ring face is 8.8mm north south and stands 4.4mm off the finger. The ruby is about 6mm. It weighs 6.9 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Note the stone sticking out the back which makes contact with the finger. I've been wearing it and don't find it uncomfortable but something to consider if you have delicate hands. The backs of the stone has a pointed culet so it is mostly felt when the ring is spun and I suppose also depends on how tightly it is worn on the finger.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
