ABOUT:
Beautiful antique moon pin set with alternating pink and blue sapphires. Really uncommon and striking coloring, varying slightly in hues with varying shapes to the stones as well.
This would make a beautiful pendant with an easy alteration by your local jeweler to remove the pin back and add a loop / loops. I am selling it as is because as a pendant, the moon could be situated facing up or down, to the side or angled, with one loop or two or connected permanently to a chain so I will leave it to the buyer to determine their preference on altering it, or wearing it as a brooch!
All stones tested in the Ruby Sapphire range on my gem tester (what one gemologist might call a ruby, another might call a pink sapphire based on the hue of pink, at which there is no definitive line). I was told they are likely synthetic and some of the pink stones definitely appear as such. As synthetic rubies and sapphires were a very popular choice for the period - people couldn't get enough of them. But it is definitely a corundum with the correct gemstone properties and not glass.
Found in Paris but it has a mix of hallmarks. It's stamped 750, the numerical hallmark used in Europe for 18k gold, so it's possible at least some parts are 18k gold but I am selling it all as 14k gold to be safe because it has the French marks for 14k on the post and bracket / catch from when it was re-tested for the secondhand market. I tested it as well in various places with scratch test and Kee tester. It is also stamped "UNO-A" and the rest of that mark is covered by the solder in that area.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There is discoloration to the solder around the bracket holding the pin back. The rest of the piece is solid gold including the pin back.
The stones show quite a bit of age and wear. There are abrasions, the kite shaped sapphire on one end is chipped and on the opposite end, a stone was lost so they put a brilliant cut in sideways and secured it with adhesive. The largest center sapphire has some nibbled edges, some of the smaller stones also have small chips and nicks. A worn prong here or there but all the other stones are secure. If the condition was better, I'd have listed it for more as these moon pieces are so collectible but with normal wear it is still quite unique, interesting and beautiful.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).
Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
