ABOUT:
Personal collection release - this one looks like it came out of a Georgian to Victorian period piece movie. Very fine mesh chain, double strand, set with half pearls in prongs connecting the two strands at five points throughout the necklace. Drapes so beautifully, I love wearing this one.
The outside chain is longer to allow the escalavage style drape. Just a great antique look, perfect to dress up or down. It's amazing to me that this dainty piece with the intricate mesh links creating the larger round chain has survived so many years. This special chain dates all the way back to the time of Napoleon Bonaparte in France. Or as far as another common dating jewelry practice, the Georgian era. It has a later 18k gold hallmark for secondhand / resold French goods. Not very often we find pieces like these in still wearable condition. Sturdy hand feel too at 15.7 grams, and selling at a reasonably low markup for a wearable piece considering melt value alone (retail markup for gold can be up to 400%).
Antique boxes / any additional items in displays in photos are not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 15.7g. Stretched end to end it's 18 inches.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Two welds, one on each side of the inside strand center pearl, almost expected considering the great age and intricate fabrication of the piece. It was very tidily done but shows a slight ripple / interruption to the pattern and when you study it you can see the difference in patina there. Some age to the pearls, and possible that one or two are later replacements, under magnification only you can see a few spots of adhesive fortifying the prongs to the pearls but again very tidy and not at all visible to the eye while wearing. Clasp is excellent, snaps closed securely.
Special piece.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
