An uncommon opal and emerald halo ring!
I have a soft spot for opals as they are a favorite of my mom's since my dad gave her one when they were dating. Of all the opals these antique bluer ones are the ones I am most drawn to. This one is up there with the most vibrant blue opal I have had, along with flecks of green in direct light and a warm pinkish yellow inner glow.

Making this antique ring even more fun is the halo of carre cut emeralds surrounding it. Halo rings always seem to be quite popular but this is a unique color combo with the green emeralds surround around the beautiful blue opal. The emeralds are not uniform in their sizes and cuts, appearing hand chiseled and quite old.

No hallmarks remain, likely lost during a sizing as there is evidence of it to the back, but sold to me as 18k and tested to confirm.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Currently measures a size 4. It weighs 2.5 grams. Ring face is 13.7mm north to south by 10mm. The opal is about 10x7mm.

CONDITION NOTES:

The opal is exceptional in color but does show wear with the surface having a matte finish from wear to the softer polished stone over 100 years. It really has very little sheen remaining but the color of it is the star of the show. Two crazing lines seen under lit magnification, I cannot see these with the eye. These are not cracks. It did not occur from banging or striking the stone as there no chips or cracks on the surface of the stone from trauma. The reason for this is that opals aren't 100% solid by nature, they contain water that can react to environmental conditions which causes the crazing, especially on a piece of this age. These do not affect the stability of the stone.
The emeralds look quite old and show wear. One emerald is cracked but the two parts are held in the channel so the halo remains complete to the eye. There are other chipped corners, nibbles, abrasions and natural inclusions, some small gaps, but the stones are small so this is seen more when studying the piece. To the eye while wearing the halo appears complete. This one had quite a lot of buildup so I gave it a good cleaning but it could use a little more of a gentle soak and light brushing. The setting didn't allow me to reach the back of the emeralds and I didn't want to risk brushing anything loose. Definitely recommend gentle wear though as I do on all my antiques, especially those with multiple small stones. Still quite a rare piece.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
